Among the big three U. S. retailers said to keep their medicines free of any problems from Tuesday’s announcement, Walmart said in a statement: “Despite the FDA’s latest warnings and side effects, we still have a problem ofLegal Sale of Medicines.”
Included in the new Walmart statement was a list of products that were free of problems Tuesday, but the active ingredient in the two most popular of those products is Nexium. That’s right, just under half of people taking the drug take it daily.
So Walmart said Tuesday it has started a clinical trial to see if it can find a way to save people from having problems with the drug. The company said it has received “some positive, positive” and “negative” scientific data that suggests the drug may be safe for people who take it daily.
The company also said it has decided to begin selling “limited series” of Nexium tablets to people with serious symptoms. These trials have been planned for the middle of next year.
“Based on these limited series of tablets, we believe that we have a product with a well-established safety profile,” the company said.
In response to Tuesday’s announcement, Pfizer said that it has received “some positive, positive” and “negative” scientific data that suggests the drug may be safe for people who take it daily. It added that the company will continue to market the product in the U. under the name Nexium.
